GE Testing Energy Efficiency of Smart Homes

General Electric is rolling out a program that will provide digital energy technology for a research project testing how energy-efficient homes can be with smart-grid products for consumers.

The $5 million dollar program backed by the Department of Energy will provide US homeowners with Ge’s Nucleus home electricity management system, and with LED lighting, connected appliances and solar panels.

According to GE, they are looking to see whether the combination of on-site power production through solar and energy management technology can reduce energy usage by 70% in both new and existing homes.
