Federally Funded Weatherization Program Covers Solar, Efficiency Technology

The federally funded weatherization program will now cover comprehensive home energy retrofits, rather than just traditional home energy audits.

On Thursday the Department of Energy announced that it has received an additional $120 million in funding and that participating energy service providers have weatherized more than 31,000 homes in the U.S. as of June.

Of that funding, $90 million is being made available to home energy efficiency providers to install on-site solar power, efficient appliances, and home energy monitoring technologies.

Traditionally, home weatherization providers conduct an audit of consumers’ homes and provide suggestions on ways to save energy through sealing, more efficient appliances, and insulation.

With this funding, some of these providers will now be able to directly install energy efficiency technologies in consumers’ homes.
