Vice President Biden and Secretary Chu recently launched the Home Energy Score Program to help consumers save money by saving energy. The program is kicking off in 10 pilot locations across the nation.

The federally funded weatherization program will now cover comprehensive home energy retrofits, rather than just traditional home energy audits.

On Thursday the Department of Energy announced that it has received an additional $120 million in funding and that participating energy service providers have weatherized more than 31,000 homes in the U.S. as of June.

General Electric is rolling out a program that will provide digital energy technology for a research project testing how energy-efficient homes can be with smart-grid products for consumers.

The $5 million dollar program backed by the Department of Energy will provide US homeowners with Ge’s Nucleus home electricity management system, and with LED lighting, connected appliances and solar panels.
